Happy Father's Day!

For this special Father's Day post, we asked local food blogger Sal Godfrey to suggest a few beers that would pair nicely with our pistachios. Here's what she came up with...

Father’s Day is fast approaching, and unless you want to end up in a last minute panic, it’s time to think about how to show your Dad some love. Whether he’s the type that’s always handy with a toolbox or he’s just the perfect shoulder to cry on, we all know of a reason why we couldn’t do without our Dads – so why not show it this year by giving him the ingredients for a bit of well-earned downtime?

Pistachio Provenance's little boxes of lightly salted Greek pistachios make a beautiful present (I absolutely love the compact packaging and fabulous colours of the branding) and a delicious nibble. What’s more, they’re the perfect bar snack, going down a treat with a few cold beers, especially those brewed in the German gose style, which tend to be quite tart – perfect with salty nuts. I love to shout about independent companies doing delicious things here in the UK, so here’s a few gose beers from great indie brewers that I'd recommend as particularly pistachio-friendly…

Sleeping Lemons, Wild Beer Co

Sleeping Lemons, from the Wild Beer Co. This fabulous summery beverage is made with preserved lemons, whence comes its adorable name – did you know that the Moroccan for preserved lemons actually translates literally as ‘sleeping lemons’? A lovely citrusy beer made for drinking in the sun – with a box of pistachios close at hand, naturally.

Salty Kiss, Magic Rock Brewery

Salty Kiss, from Magic Rock Brewing. Another deliciously tart beer, this one is brewed with English gooseberries, so it’s fruity and refreshing (especially when served blisteringly cold) but with a hint of saltiness, making it the perfect partner for pistachios.

And one more, not from the UK but too delicious not to mention...

Gose to Hollywood, To Øl

Gose To Hollywood, from To Øl. This is the Danish take on gose, brewed with Californian oranges for a burst of sunshine, so it has a fabulously fruity aroma and flavor. It's the ideal thirst quencher for hot days, whiling away a few hours in the garden.

So what are you waiting for? This year, shun the usual boring clichés and get your Dad something as special as he is. Wrap up a box of Pistachio Provenance's delicious pistachios and a few good beers – bonus points for including a good book or reserving his favourite chair in the sunshine – and I guarantee serious brownie points. Click here to buy the pistachios, and don’t forget to check out the Wild Beer Co, Magic Rock Brewing and To Øl as well. Cheers to Dads everywhere!
